Moldova in a postcard illustration & AR animation
Moldova in Illustration – A Genuine Visual Tribute
In the courtyards of Moldovan villages, there exists a world of its own. Here, the day begins with the first crow of the rooster, and evenings come to life with the scent of freshly baked bread, just out of the oven. Farmers tend to their gardens with passion, children run between clotheslines filled with freshly washed linens, and the animals and poultry compete to provide the most milk and eggs.
When a Moldovan invites someone into their courtyard, they invite them to warmth, kindness, and true hospitality.
Come in, our gate is always open!
The illustration "Rustic Charm" was created for the "Moldova in a Postcard" competition, organized by ARTCOR, as a visual reflection of Moldova's essence.
The Creative Process
- Sketching the composition – exploring visual balance through tonal sketches.
- Detailing the characters – capturing authentic expressions through multiple studies.
- Precise outlining – defining details through line art.
- Coloring and finalization – applying the color palette to enhance the atmosphere.
- Preparing for animation – separating elements into layers for animation in Toon Boom.
This work is more than just an illustration – it’s a story about roots, tradition, and the deep connection between people and the nature surrounding them.
THE ANIMATION
The animation created in Toon Boom represents the climax of the story, the moment when the protagonist successfully teaches the hen to fly. Through this work, I highlight the idea that, regardless of obstacles, with confidence and perseverance, anything is possible!
Experience the animation through Augmented Reality (AR)!
The illustration comes to life through the Artivive app, offering an interactive experience:

The Story
In the garden, the scent of basil and freshly cut hay filled the air. Mama, observing the scene from the doorstep, said:
- Toma, put the chicken down, or we’ll run out of eggs!
- But, Mama, I want to teach it to fly!
Mama gently explained how farmers tend to their gardens and how everything has its place in this small rural universe. When Toma saw the chicken manage to fly, he understood that self-confidence is the key to success.
